Master Bedroom Reveal

Today's the day! My master bedroom is DONE and I finally get to show it to you all! I'm ridiculously excited. Obviously. And I'm thrilled with the way it turned out.

Be warned: there are a LOT of pictures in this post.

Here it is!

Remember what it looked like before? The first picture is what it looked like when we bought the house. And the second picture is what we had been living with for the last 4 years.

Bleh, right? I had literally hung about 3 things on the walls. A shelf with some pictures on it and 2 window frames as our headboard... which we hung too high and was very uncomfortable to lean against. That was the extent of decorating in this room. And it was SO dark with our dark green wall and our dark brown accents. We tore up the carpet about 2 years ago to reveal beautiful, unfinished hardwoods, which we had left unfinished until now.

Now, we have a beautiful light blue paint color (Benjamin Moore Arctic Blue) with white, teal and watermelon as our accent colors. Much lighter and brighter! We stained our floors dark (Minwax Dark Walnut) to offset it against the white trim. I also bought a new comforter and upholstered our box spring with fabric to match the paint (link for this tutorial at the bottom).

We added these two closets to our room. Before, there was only a tiny closet in the corner by where the door is. My husband was using that one and I was using one in the loft part of our upstairs (which is now our new nursery). Now we each have our own closet in our bedroom.

Building these closets on either side of the window also made a perfect little nook to put a chair and footstool. I totally transformed this chair, added a pillow that I sewed and made a ruffled shade to go on my thrift store lamp (check out the bottom of this post for the links to how I did all these projects, also).

For the windows, I was planning on making curtains because I had a specific idea in mind and couldn't find any that were in my budget. I wanted white curtains with nickel finish grommets that were 95" long(ish) so they would be ceiling height. I ran across some at Target while I was browsing their home decor section that were exactly what I wanted and they were on sale! So, needless to say, I bought those and saved myself the hassle of sewing curtains and adding grommets to them!

I repainted our window frames a glossy white and added fabric behind them to compliment the colors of the room and tie in with the pillows. I also painted our nightstands and the new lamps and added some accessories.  I pretty much found everything at thrift stores and garage sales, except the throw blanket. I bought that at Target.

I bought a couple of white Euro pillow shams from Amazon and made pillow covers out of different materials to put on the bed. I love the look of lots of pillows! It just makes the bed more inviting.

I'm seriously in love with the end product!

P.S. There is one spot next to my closet that I am going to put this beauty. I just have to paint it and reupholster the stool. It's going to be my dressing/makeup table! But it was a complete afterthought and I ended up getting it for $15 when I bought my chair off Craigslist, so I don't feel bad about it not being done. (And it probably won't get done until after our new baby gets here!)
